ViON has introduced a novel online approach to accurately predict faults within various assets in the power network before they arise. This identification allows companies to take immediate and preventative action before any catastrophic consequences occur. ViON measures the input/output of current/voltage for each asset in the electricity grid to create a 'fingerprint'. Any variation in the fingerprint is then an early indication for faults. This solar powered tent folds up into a rollaway backpack and was produced by girls who hope that one day, their tent will improve the lives of people experiencing homelessness in their community.?The teens, none of whom had coded, soldered, sewn, or 3D-printed before they joined forces, won a $10,000 grant from the Lemelson-MIT Program to develop the invention.?They were recruited by DIY Girls, a nonprofit that teaches girls from low-income communities about engineering, maths and science, to go after the grant. https://www.buildingandinteriors.com/10205/
An Australian physicist at the University of Newcastle is leading a push to pioneer a new type of low-cost solar energy that could make signing up for energy accounts as straightforward as taking up a mobile phone plan. Less than one millimetre thick and held down with double-sided sticky tape, the panels are similar in texture to a potato chip packet and can be produced for less than $10 per square metre. Work has now begun on a 200 square-metre installation, the first commercial application of its kind in Australia and possibly the world.

Hydrogen has huge potential as a fuel. It can be easily transported and stored in the form of ammonia. But, until now, the challenge has been - how can we extract pure hydrogen at the point of need, for example, at a fuelling station? CSIRO's new hydrogen membrane technology has solved this problem. They have created a metal membrane that filters out pure hydrogen gas from ammonia. It can then be dispensed into fuel cell cars, buses and even trucks. Hydrogen could now rival the LNG industry.
