Liam Fleming- Glassblower
“Liam Fleming has developed a singular glass practice alongside years of experience as a production glassblower and assistant to other makers. His distinctive vocabulary of forms and techniques test the constraints of glassblowing while exploring the complicated relationship between craft, art, design and architecture. These concerns are evident in his beguiling objects that capture a moment of transformation through the “controlled demolition” of mould-blown forms. They are captivating in demonstrating expert technique, uncertainty, and imperfection. Fleming’s new body of work results from further experiments with coldworking techniques, giving over to chance in the workshop and a philosophical exploration” https://indaily.com.au/inreview/visual-art/2022/11/04

How to build an Australian People's Constitution
This new book, “The People’s Constitution”, contains the latest research about the values and aspirations of Australians and their need to enshrine those values along with their voices and human rights in a new Australian Constitution if they wish to take a rightful share of power in their own governance – a share sufficient to help them build the future of wellbeing and security that they need and deserve. As Australia walks on to an Indigenous Voice in the Constitution and then walks towards a decision one way or another about a republic, we will need this new people’s constitution.

Apple Airtag for Tracking Pets
One of my cats recently went missing. He was gone over Winter for almost a month in the freezing cold. Thankfully, I was reunited with him. To avoid this happening again in the future, I wanted a device to track my pets. After lots of research, I decided on the Apple Airtag. While Apple has stated that the AirTag is not meant for tracking pets, it seems to be best product on the market, compared with bulky, expensive and unreliable GPS products. Cats don't seem to mind it either!

Can AI platform ChatGPT pass the Bar Exam?
Michael J Bommarito II and Daniel Martin Katz recently published a paper on whether ChatGPT would be able to pass the US Bar Exam.  To practice law in the US, applicants must complete at least 7 years tertiary education, including 3 years at an accredited law school, before they are eligible to sit the Bar Exam.  The authors experimented on whether Open AI could pass the Bar exam.  Results were mixed,  but the authors concluded that Open AI will be capable of passing the Bar Exam in the very near future.  Click here to read about the experiment - https://the-decoder.com/gpt-4-could-pass-bar-exam-ai-researchers-say/

Re-designing Off-Shore Wind Turbines
Wind turbines can rotate on either a horizontal or vertical axis. To date, there have not been too many deployments of vertical-axis wind turbines off-shore, they have tended to be use in more urban areas. However, Norway is home to a number of pilots testing various vertical axis designs off-shore, including this one. Benefits of this design include:-- no need to track the wind- maintenance is easier as all the gear is at the base of the tower, not the top- can be placed closer together = more energy/less space- reduced risk of bird strike https://electrek.co/2023/01/27/norway-vertical-axis-floating-wind-turbine/
