A heritage art collection that encourages creative entrepreneurship
Art that was created during the 1970's and 1980's by South Africa's black artists, has been returned to South Africa by benefactors who had taken it overseas. It now forms a significant part of the Ifa Lethu Heritage Collection. The repatriation of art created by the struggle-era artists, now numbers 670 and required the involvement of 16 countries. Through its work over the last few years, the Foundation has successfully assisted 2,300 poverty stricken youth and women, delivering on benefits such as income generation through job creation and enterprise development. https://www.ifalethu.org.za/

Bus signage designed like trains
Today I went to a school reunion at Mosman and found out that buses on Sydney's north shore are better designed than those in the eastern suburbs. Bus stops have illuminated signs to show where buses are going and when they will arrive. The interior sign also clearly shows the next stop. Our bus was a double decker.

You can't prosper as a country unless you educate girls
Dr Kakenya Ntaiya has set up a school where parents must agree that their girls will not undergo the tribal ritual of circumcision and will not be married before they finish school. The Kakenya Center for Excellence has already transformed the lives of more than 230 young women in Kenya Africa through education. Some of the girls have studied in Australia and directors were told about it this week at an Ashurst luncheon- an inspiring story including how Kakenya agreed to have the circumcision ritual so other girls would not have to undergo it.https://www.kakenyasdream.org

Ballet shoes that match the skin of non-white dancers
Britain's oldest ballet shoe manufacturer Freed of London has created new pointe shoes in bronze and brown instead of just the traditional pink. The ballet gear makers worked with dance company Ballet Black, whose dancers are all of black and Asian descent, to create the new shoes. www.sbs.com.au/news/ballet-shoes-have-been-made-to-better-match-the-skin-colour-of-non-white-dancers

A drone that leads the way in mapping underground
Hovermap technology allows drones to collect data in underground areas, or other locations in which GPS is not reliable. It's the result of a decade of research from CSIRO's robotics and autonomous systems group. The drones can be deployed without a human controller and can create 3D maps, record gas readings and take images and videos.. They are equipped with lasers, which let them detect the environment around them. The CSIRO ON accelerator program, was the catalyst for the commercialisation of the venture. http://www.emesent.io/
