Tracey Emin's monumental sculpture The Mother is on view outside the Munch Museum, the site of her recent major exhibition ‘Tracey Emin / Edvard Munch – The Loneliness of the Soul’. The 18.2 tonne, nine-metre tall work emphasises the female figure as vulnerable, a protector and sexualised being; a monument to femininity and motherhood that is visible from afar over land and water. ‘The Mother sits like a Sphinx, waiting for the tide. Through each bag sold, continuous jobs are created, and fabric is saved from landfill. Every bag is designed, and sewn, by someone who has exited human trafficking and prostitution.  Each unique upcycled bag is sewn in a safe environment by these survivors.
