Researchers from Purdue University have developed a 3D printed ingestable capsule that captures samples throughout the gut and enables them to safely exit the body for testing. A resin pill device with a pH sensitive tip reaches the area of the gut with the right pH level, dissolves and allows intestinal fluid to come inside. Hydrogel absorbs liquid and expands, then a plug pushes against the opening to seal the capsule. Once excreted, the sample can be removed and the bacteria analysed. |
