New treatment for sepsis: Vitamin C

Jacinta Bowler, science journalist at Cosmos Magazine reports on a breakthrough in the treatment of sepsis, which affect 25,000 Australians and 50m people globally. 

Sepsis starts with an infection, usually bacterial, and if untreated results in organ damage and death.

Melbourne researchers Professor Rinaldo Bellomo and Florey Associate Professor Yugeesh Lankadeva... report that, in a randomised trial, an infusion of megadose sodium ascorbate directly into the bloodstream was safe and gave really strong physiological signals of benefit to kidney function, blood pressure maintaining drugs, and multi organ function.
