Treatment for glaucoma involves lowering the pressure in the eye with eye drops, laser or surgery.

While this can be effective, it doesn't work for everyone: more than a third of people continue to lose vision despite being treated.

A team in Sweden  found that nicotinamide supplementation prevented a lot of the nerve damage in the mice that would typically appear with glaucoma.

A team at the Centre of Eye Research Australia, led the first clinical trial of nicotinamide in humans, with results showing that it had the potential to boost the health of retinal ganglion cells to slow down vision loss in glaucoma.
