When Half a Glass is Great News
LionGlass is a new family of glass developed by researchers at Penn State University that does not require the same carbon-containing batch materials (soda ash and limestone) and significantly lowers the melting temperatures required during the manufacturing process. Both these differences mean the production of LionGlass is likely result in nearly half the emissions of conventional glass, for a product which is reportedly also significantly less breakable. https://www.psu.edu/news/research/story/new-glass-cuts-carbon-footprint-nearly-half-and-10x-more-damage-resistant/

Constitutional change is possible with a change in process
When will our politicians accept that they are not trusted enough to sponsor a constitutional change successfully? Is it ego? Is it fear of losing the power to dictate?   A process that helps the whole community understand the need for change and how any proposal can improve things is required. Several ways of achieving this have been proposed in recent years.   It is heartbreaking to see the issue of indigenous recognition flounder for the lack of adequate community consultation. A pause in the process for broad consultation and some redrafting is warranted.   https://www.ideaspies.com/posts/a-way-of-breaking-the-referendum-deadlock

Hurvin Anderson-evoking feelings rather than conveying facts
Anderson’s work evokes feelings rather than conveying facts. “For me, there was always something false about the photorealistic,” he says. “I want to acknowledge to the viewer that this is made up. There is truth in there, but also elements of fiction.” Anderson typically starts with acrylic and then works on top with oil. “I enjoy the spontaneity of acrylics. They dry quickly. You can move quickly. I want that speed”. His methods are influenced by the likes of William Coldstream and Euan Uglow, other British painters who used colour in a similar way. https://www.thomasdanegallery.com/artists/28-hurvin-anderson/works/
