Plant-based wax replaces fossil fuels in Cosmetics
Algae has been studied for years as a potential source of biofuels. But its potential as a natural source of wax to replace the carbon intensive petrochemicals used in many of our non-organic cosmetics, body-care and sunscreen products is pretty new.https://www.whoi.edu/press-room/news-release/natural-wax-holds-promise-to-replace-petroleum-in-cosmetics-and-personal-care-products/

A Beekeeper's Demonstration
We saw this demonstration of beekeeping at the Sydney Royal Easter show. The beekeeper used some smoke to calm the bees before opening the hive then explained how it works. The work of a queen bee is much harder than I thought!Nearby there are honey tastings and many varieties of honey- a great way to encourage people to try.

How "sponge cities" can prevent floods and droughts
As cities experience the effects of climate change, new designs are emerging to mitigate risks.“Sponge cities” can absorb, filter and store surface water, whilst also sanitising it. It's a sustainable water management solution for urban development, so the built environment can adapt to droughts and floods.Instead of impermeable asphalt roads and concrete playgrounds - that act as heat islands - sponge cities incorporate natural and green infrastructure that permits water to filter underground supported by surface flood plains built of earth, gravel, sand and grass.  It's a protective above and below ground solution harnessing resources based on nature.

Paul Smith Designs a Picasso Exhibition
Officially opened at the Paris institution in March 2023. Curated by the museum's president Cécile Debray and Joanne Snrech, under the artistic direction of Paul himself. The exhibition is a unique showcase of the artist's sweeping oeuvre – with a twist. No white walls but colourful artfully designed walls, that speak to the art works in a new way. “A show as a three-dimensional exhibition of colour, optimism and lateral thinking, he was not comparing myself to Picasso - but he could relate to the way he was just interested in ‘stuff’ and his childlike approach to it.” https://www.afr.com/life-and-luxury/arts-and-culture/what-happened-when-paul-smith-designed-a-picasso-exhibition-202
