A Beekeeper's Demonstration
We saw this demonstration of beekeeping at the Sydney Royal Easter show. The beekeeper used some smoke to calm the bees before opening the hive then explained how it works. The work of a queen bee is much harder than I thought!Nearby there are honey tastings and many varieties of honey- a great way to encourage people to try.

A Rural Students' Cafe at the Royal Easter Show
Students from rural, regional and remote locations of NSW came to Sydney to experience commercial cooking and cafe service at the Royal Easter Show. Everything on this tasting plate is made by the students who are studying Certificate II Hospitality and Certificate II Kitchen Operations courses. We very much enjoyed our lunch which was very well presented and served with enthusiasm.Participating schools include Whitebridge High School, Lightening Ridge Central School and Gundagai & Tumut High School.

Precision fermentation to develop new ingredients
An ambitious plan to transform the way ingredients are created by using fermentation has raised $10.5 million in seed funding, a new record for a female-founded startup.Cauldron, based in regional NSW, will use the funds to expand its existing pilot plant in Orange, 260km west of Sydney, as well as building a national production network and team. While the notion of fermentation is nothing new Founder Michele Stansfield says they are at the cutting edge of “precision fermentation” – industrial-scale fermentation. Precision fermentation is designed to develop new ingredients such as proteins, fats and fibres, which can then be used to create animal-free “milk”, plant-based “meats” and biodegradable plastic alternatives.

A powder that can make beer in the same way you would make instant coffee
A European brewery has revolutionised the way carbonated beverages are made by concocting a powdered lager that almost mimics the look of beer on tap, just by adding water. Neuzeller Klosterbräu, a German brewery that’s been in the industry for almost 500 years, invented the powder which can make beer in the same way a person would make instant coffee or a protein shake. By simply adding a couple of spoons of powder into a glass, adding water and giving it a stir, beer enthusiasts can make their favourite drink without having to open the fridge. https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/drink/like-normal-beer-german-brewery-creates-carbonated-lage

Smart electric scooters that slow risky drivers
Artificially intelligent electric scooters that can slow down or stop when being driven illegally will be rolled out in Tasmania in the first large-scale Australian trial of the technology. In its initial phase the technology will be used to identify different types of paths across Hobart using symbols, road widths and other cues to differentiate between footpaths, bike paths and roads. In its second stage, the technology would sound alerts when riders were exceeding speed limits or riding where they shouldn’t and in its final phase would automatically slow or stop e-scooters if they were being used to break the law.https://www.inkl.com/a/XYRrWGsdRm
