Better Whistleblowing Protections
Australia has led the world with protections for public interest whistleblowing. From the early 1990s Australia was the first country after the United States to enact comprehensive public sector whistleblowing laws. In 2019,Australia's private sector laws were the first to give whistleblowers rights to compensation if companies fail in their duty to protect them. However, overall, Australia’s whistleblower protection laws are now falling behind. The 5-year statutory review of the Corporations Act whistleblower protection provisions (Part 9.4AAA) is due in 2024. Given recent issues with PwC these provisions should be strengthened and extended to partnerships. https://transparency.org.au/accountable-government/whistleblowing/
