The key to the shells of the Sydney Opera House
"After three years of intensive research for a basic geometry for the shell complex I arrived in October 1961 at the spherical solution shown here.I call it my "key to the shells" as it solves all the problems of construction by opening up for mass production, precision in manufacture and simple erection, and with this geometrical system I attain full harmony between all the shapes in this fantastic complex."We visited the Museum of Sydney today. Its very interesting history of Sydney includes films of the early settlement, building of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House and exhibits, including this one quoting Danish architect Jorn Utzon who won the competition for the design.
