When trees fall, invasive weeds grow quickly and suffocate native flora, hindering restoration efforts. They also prevent migrant songbirds from nesting in the forest. Brooklyn?s Prospect Park was battered with tropical-storm-force winds in 2012 damaging or felling more than 500 trees. Five years later, that forest is fast on its way to recovery?and most of the credit goes to teams of goats who?ve been tasked with restoring the park?s fragile ecosystem. https://www.fastcompany.com/40468479/these-goats-arent-just-cute-theyre-also-helping-to-restore-brooklyns-last-natural-forest?
Scientists in Denmark are developing a new type of grass that's designed to reduce methane emissions from belching cows. The grass is easier to digest hence cows don't release as much methane when they burp. Methane doesn't last as long in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, but in the long term it's believed to have a far greater impact on climate change.
