Please excuse the terseness of this reply, but real time reporting was not an idea "from David Marr" but rather an idea repeated by David Marr. This is a very old idea. I won't touch the accuracy or the "call to authority" nature of the reference to Mr Marr being "one of Australia's most influential commentators".
But "containing the power of money in our politics "(not sure whose politics Mr Marr means by our, but notwithstanding) should and cannot not limited to private money. This includes public money which is just as distortionary and pernicious. There should be no public funding of political parties or campaigns. This includes the removal of direct appropriations and indirect benefits through the tax deductability of donations.
Removing public money and making private money more transparent will open the doors to a different class of politician. It will also require politicians to actually do their core duty of engaging with their electors - something our current class are incapable of doing and disinclined to do.
Good to see this idea, that has been around a long time, finally happening.
