A?growing number of Chinese parents are choosing English names for their children in the hope of helping them gain a future foothold in the West. A British schoolgirl recognised this trend on a holiday in China as well as that embarrassing names were being selected. The confusion is partly the result of Chinese government censorship of the internet restricting its citizens' understanding of western cultural references. So she set up a website to suggest culturally appropriate English names for prospective parents by matching the meaning of the name to the family's ideals and aspirations for their children. In 6 months her site had named more than 232,000 babies.
