ZHOU JIE- Porcelain on Rice
Currently showing at the White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney. This work has been carefully created by hand. It recreates Beijing’s Central business district using delicate white porcelain sitting atop a bed of rice. Jhou Jie explains that rice come up from the ground, and the buildings come up from the ground, BUT they are not natural. Miniature structures and roads are transformed into fantastical coral-like growths. These forms express the artists view that expansions mirrors, the insidious spread of a virus. whiterabbitcollection.org/artist/zhou-jie/

Modern concrete construction methods make a big impact
Traditional construction is slow and labour-intensive. That's a problem when you have an undersupply of housing and skills. The fast REZICAST system offers precast concrete panels that can be used in place of timber trusses and brick walls. Lock-up is achievable in as little as 10 days. The panels offer unsurpassed structural strength, superior energy and sound insulation, less site rubbish and water usage.  Manufactured locally then trucked to site, they are craned into place with on-ground help from labourers. By minimising the time carpenters and bricklayers would otherwise spend at height, there are also WHS benefits.More information: https://rezicastsystems.com/

Catching risky property developers
Owners corporations of large apartments have avoided reporting issues said David Chandler NSW Building Commissioner, because of fears for their apartments’ reputation. But by the time they have reached a dead end in the courts, “they’ve run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, they’ve had no defects repaired, and because of the passage of time the developer has wound up their company”. “The message has got to be: ‘Tell us about them earlier.’” In December, last year the NSW state government removed Chandler’s department from within NSW Fair Trading and established it as a standalone agency, Building Commission NSW with many more staff to enforce standards. https://www.smh.com.

Mayo Clinic Experiments In Space May Find Reason For Astronaut Bone Depletion
Stem cell experiments from the Mayo Clinic (USA),  will be launched into space at the end of the month by NASA. They  will be headed to the International Space Station. These experiments will  help to determine how mesenchymal stem (bone marrow)  cells react to  zero gravity. Adult stem cells will also be part of this experiment for healing and potential growth factorization. The relevance of this experiment is that astronauts suffer bone depletion in space while being off the planet for long periods.Scientists hope to learn how this bone depletion occurs so that they can work on solutions.
