A new system to analyse gold
Since the middle ages the fire assay has been the gold standard in gold analysis. However a new system has been developed by the CSIRO using powerful x-rays to bombard rock samples and activate atoms of gold ? and other metals ? giving off unique atomic signatures which are detected by a highly sensitive detector. It dramatically reduces the turnaround time on assays from days to minutes, providing critical data to miners on gold grades in near real-time to support operational decisions.. While this new system is currently calibrated to evaluate gold, it can also be applied to a range of other minerals, including silver and copper. https://blog.csiro.au/first-photon-assay-installation/

A community you can join if you love fishing
Fisho is an app that?s been designed for people who love to fish in Australia. It offers comprehensive weather forecasts including temperature, barometric pressure, tide times, wind, swell activity and moon phases -everything you need to know to make sure you're fishing at the right time. You can use it to keep a fishing log. You take a photo of your catch, name the species and bait and Fisho creates a catch card that records the location, weather conditions, tide and moon phase, bait, species and any notes you want to add. https://fishoapp.com.au/

A crutch that lets you use your hands
Crutches can hurt your hands, wrists and underarms and make it hard to walk. Exporting sunshine as green hydrogen
Australia could soon be exporting sunshine in the form of renewable energy-produced hydrogen, creating an industry that could rival Australia's LNG exports. Hydrogen has significant potential as a clean energy source, but is currently uneconomical to produce and export at scale. Japan is embracing hydrogen, which produces heat and water vapour when burned, in a national strategy to create an emissions-free hydrogen society by 2030. The shift to green hydrogen, produced by excess solar and wind energy, would allow Australia to export sunshine on a large scale. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/climate/chief-sci

Designs fabricated as soon as they are created
A team of scientists?at Cornell University is building?a robotic assistant to fabricate 3D digital designs in real time. Called the Robotic Modeling Assistant (RoMA), the system combines augmented reality (AR) with robotic modeling, allowing users to design primitive 3D models on one side of a platform while the robotic arm fabricates the object on the other. The combination of AR with fast 3D printing, makes it possible for the designer to not only receive the visual cue of their design, but also the fast, in-situ tangible feedback that otherwise couldn't be possible. www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/robotic-3d-printing-augmented-reality/
