Giant exhaust fans to absorb carbon dioxide from the air
British start-up Storegga is developing one of the world’s first projects to hoover carbon dioxide directly from the air, before pumping it out to sea and burying it forever.Storegga’s plan starts with its Acorn project at St Fergus, which will offer traditional carbon capture and storage for big industrial players plus a hydrogen generation plant. But the novelty value comes from so-called “direct air capture” (DAC) of carbon dioxide.Companies in sectors such as aviation and agriculture will be able to offset their unavoidable carbon emissions by paying to remove an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide from the air.http://www.afr.com/business/energy/macquarie-backs-british-plan-to-hoover-carbon-from-the-air-20210330-p5
