World's first AI lawyer

A robot lawyer will appear in a US court next month, representing a client facing traffic charges.

The artificial intelligence (AI) tool uses machine learning to match text and voice recognition with a data set comprised of legislation and legal precedent.

In real time, it then formulates legal advice for the client.

DoNotPay, the US-based firm behind the software, said it can help clients "fight corporations, beat bureaucracy and sue anyone at the press of a button".

The program will run on a smartphone and work by listening to the court proceedings, and advising how to respond via an ear piece.
