The European Union’s Emissions Trading System (from July 2021) puts a price on CO2 emissions, and has been a key driver of decarbonisation in energy and industry. From Dec 2022, the EU has decided to set up a similar scheme for the transport and heating sectors. And this includes the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) that will impact trade from Australia and the world - see details below.
