President Biden is requesting $500 million for the farm industry in order to encourage U.S. wheat farmers to double crop their fields due to global grain price surges .
USDA estimates it will help U.S. farmers replenish up to 50% of the wheat typically exported from Ukraine onto the global market. This will also lower food costs for American consumers. The request includes about $100 million to pay for a $10 per acre incentive to farmers . This payment through crop insurance premiums will be for a soybean crop planted after a winter wheat crop in 2023.
