Using light to attract the right species of fish

post-image

20% of all fish caught in commercial fishing nets are the wrong type of fish.

This depopulates our seas while resulting in over 16 million tonnes of unnecessary waste. Sorting through the catch also takes time & money, whilst presenting regulatory risk if the wrong species are caught.

But a UK firm has worked out a way to use "smart lighting" & a range of colours to repel unwanted species & attract target species. They can even use light to segregate between ages of fish.

Their approach reduces bycatch by 90%,delivering a far more sustainable fishing outcome.
