That wonderful thing, community, our society, needs to feel it, too.

In a thoughtful article in The Daily, Michael Pascoe reminds us of the human obligation of governments, individuals and communities who are better off in terms of wealth, influence and power responsibly giving back to others.

"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."

I agree Glenn, Michael Psscoe has given a great sermon.

Happiness comes from giving, not taking. That means putting more into society than taking out.

Prosperity theology assumes being being part of a religeous sect makes you rich which might be true if the aim is to defraud naive followers.

Trickle down economics assumes that if the rich are untaxed they will share their wealth with others which might also be true at the margin, but they will decide who is worthy and who is not. By contrast the state taxes and redistributes on known and set criteria judged by everyone (i.e. voters).

Good points Percy! I also like this quote by Rob Hopkins of Ethical Business Marketing:

"If we wait for Government, it'll be too little, too late; if we act as individuals, it'll be too little; but if we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time".
