As suggested by John Hewson, “soil carbon/regenerative agriculture, especially with the roadmap’s improved measurement technology, will happen quicker and more substantively if farmers can sell the carbon credits they create by improving the carbon content of their soils. It would give them another income stream that would reduce their need to put their hands out for welfare-type assistance in times of drought. Indeed, simple changes in farming practices — shallow tilling, organic not chemical fertilisers, crop/animal rotation, improved land clearing and reforestation, etc improve carbon content, making their soils more drought resistant.” In short, better management of 'negative emissions technologies.
