RNA interference in animals involves small double-stranded RNA molecules called siRNA. These molecules are valuable tools for studying single gene function in both in vivo and in vitro settings and are also considered a promising class of therapeutics. SiRNA delivery systems fall into two categories: viral and non-viral, including peptides, polymers, and lipids. Studies using synthetic or plasmid-encoded siRNA show its antiviral effects against various viruses, including SARS-CoV.
