Biodiversity is essential to our survival.
So good to hear about the critically endangered Mala Wallaby:
When Australian Wildlife Conservancy ecologists recently wrapped up annual health checks of Mala wallabies inside the 9,450-hectare feral predator-free safe haven at Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary (NT), a total of 24 individuals were captured (9 females + 15 males) over four nights. These including 10 Newhaven-born Mala and excitingly, 75% of females caught were carrying young wallabies in their pouches.
Mala were reintroduced to Newhaven in 2017 as part of their ambitious rewilding program to restore important, locally extinct species to Central Australia
