UK - Balfour Beatty has deployed an automated conte laying machine on the M25 in an industry first.

The automated cone laying machine has been designed to minimise safety risks associated with road works.While cone laying remains essential to delineate traffic during maintenance works, it also poses one of the biggest risks facing roadworkers and there has been an industry-wide push to try and combat the number of accidents that happen each year.

Magnetic Attraction: Microplastics

A Kyushu University study (2021) estimated there were 24.4 trillion pieces of microplastics in the world's upper oceans or roughly 30 billion 500-ml plastic water bottles. Microplastics are tiny, toxic and very hard to remove from the environment. But researchers in the US have discovered that some Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) can attract and bind microplastics, making it easier to remove them from the environment.
