Resilient, emission free Islands

post-image

Islands are challenged by land restrictions, isolated grids, and few natural resources. They are also often dependent on imported fresh water, fertiliser, oil or diesel for power production, all of which can be costly and polluting.

Enter ocean energy - which can allay the challenges of intermittency from wind and solar, expand access to hydrogen, provide desalination and potable water and much more.

And according to the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA’s) Innovation Team - ocean energy is reaching technical maturity, at least in wave and tidal. So 2020 looks like a big year for projects around the world.

Emission-free islands? Wow , I want to visit this place and witness how it's happening!

Yes- fascinating that there is up to around 3.7 GW of capacity in the pipeline at the moment, the majority as tidal stream, with wave energy making up most of the balance. I wonder which islands will be first to implement- Pacific or Caribbean?
