Recognition of the benefits of changing your mind

A panel of political players at NSW Parliament last week discussed the difficulty of changing your mind in a world where consistency is prized and the media, voters, opposition and even your own side are ready to pounce on any slip-ups.

The event organised by the Ethics Centre took place in the Legislative Assembly. It also explored the rigid nature of the party line that leaves little room for difference of opinion.

People now understand that the world is changing rapidly. If there is a change of the factual data that you rely upon, then that automatically should require you to revisit your decision and maybe change your decision.

Wouldn't it be great if politicians committed to evidence-based policy development in the first place. The policy would have integrity in the first place, and changing direction and maintaining integrity when the evidence changed would be easy.

Totally agree- well said Glenn. Maybe politicians don't yet realise the increasing power of data analytics.
