Australians are invited to have their say in modernising national defamation law for search engines and social media sites.

One question is whether these internet intermediaries should be liable for content posted by users.

On 12 August 2022, the Meeting of Attorneys-General agreed to release for public consultation the draft Part A Model Defamation Amendment Provisions and an accompanying Background Paper. A Summary Paper is also available for ease of reference – it is a short extract of the Background Paper.
