A very creative way to remind us of a dark period in history
Creativity as a way to discuss the past is important.
Dan Elborne is a Queensland artist. He creates ceramic installations and sculptures which intersect personal experience and historical events. His recent installation Deathgate is reminiscent of the railway leading through the main entrance of Auschwitz- known as ”the death gate”. The stones he created are his personal response to his experience of the Auschwitz camps. He hopes his work references the history and an overarching and reflective stand point. Deathgate comprises 1.3 million handmade pieces each representing one person detained in the Auschwitz network of concentration camps. Each ceramic ‘stone’ features a finger print - an index of human interaction.http://www.danelborne.com/deathgate
