Tokens for Humanity has recently developed 64 non-fungible token (NFT) artwork collectibles. The NFTs are units of data that certify that a digital asset is unique (in this case digital artwork) and registered on the Ethereum blockchain making their ownership transparent. Recently artists such as Beeple sold one of their digital artworks through NFTs for US$69.3m. Tokens for Humanity sell the NFTs from around $150 to $35,000 with the proceeds donated to animal welfare charities.
The major downside to NFTs being used more widely is the carbon-emissions arising from the proof-of-work blockchains.
