University of Massachusetts Amherst Ventures are helping commercialise research that creates electricity from air.
Electrical engineer Jun Yao and microbiologist Derek Lovley have created a device they call an “Air-gen.” or air-powered generator, which uses a natural protein to create electricity from moisture in air.
The Air-gen does not require sunlight or wind, and “it even works indoors”, able to generate power even in areas of low humidity such as a desert. Better yet, the technology developed in Yao’s lab is non-polluting, renewable and low-cost.
Although early in their commercialisation journey, this looks well worth watching.
