Could light be the solution to data's energy hunger?

Researchers have achieved a breakthrough in the development of artificial intelligence by using light instead of electricity to perform computations.

Traditionally, the more complex the data, the greater the energy/power demands and the slower the speed between processor and memory.

By using photon-based processing units instead of electric-based units, energy consumption is reduced and speed is increased. Given our dual demands for energy and data processing, this is quite an exciting development.
