Awnings that shade car parks can power cars

Parking lots across France will soon be covered with solar canopies under a new law passed earlier this month, prompting calls for Australia to follow suit.

Under the law, all car parks with 80 spaces or more must build raised solar-panel canopies covering at least half of the surface of the parking lot, or its owners will pay penalties.

It is estimated that the solar panels could generate as much electricity as 10 nuclear power plants. Since France began debating the law, which is part of a larger plan to boost the deployment of renewable energy, a similar bill has been proposed in California.

This is a great idea.

I am very interested in knowing what thought has been given to recycling these panels at the end of life in 25 years time. Is there a plan or are we kicking the can down the road for future generations to work out?
