The Observership Program facilitates the involvement of young people with non-profit boards. Once accepted to the program and trained, Observers are paired with organisations for a 12 month period. During that time, they attend all board and/or committee meetings as non-voting members, and learn about fundamental principles and functions of non-profit boards, the roles of board members, financial reporting and other governance priorities. Founded in 2012 by Jonathan Gavshon, the program has been rated as a success by participating non-profits and Observers alike, with 25% of Observers being formally elected to their respective boards upon completion of the program.
