Sharing Ideas that Do Good

AN OPPORTUNITY EXISTS FOR OUR POLITICIANS TO LEAD A REVOLUTION IN BEHAVIOUR

post-image

Our politicians must start “practising what they preach” – including effective diversity programs and embracing the Hayne Royal Commission’s six fundamental statements, that define the intent of the law:

1. Obey the law

2. Do not mislead or deceive

3. Act fairly

4. Provide services that are fit for purpose

5. Deliver services with reasonable care and skill

6. When acting for another, act in the best interests of that other.

If our politicians were to behave, and be judged, in-line with these principles we would not be seeing them in such a “muddle” and being so “distrusted”.

What do you think?

Exactly Glenn.  Our politicians - many of them - have much to learn. The goings-on are a disgrace. Well put. Thank you.

Glenn,

An excellent and uncontroversial suggestion. However, this would be more likely to occur if there was greater diversity in our Parliament and fewer career politicians. A return to first principles, namely, "Government of the people, by the people, for the people."

Hello Charles,

Yes, I agree. Many process changes are needed to renew our democracy but it will all fail unless we get an attitude change amongst those who take up political office.

This old quotation puts it well:

Thanks and best
