Australians would have access to a digital birth certificate under a cross-jurisdictional plan spearheaded by the NSW government. The new birth certificate would most likely be retrospective, allowing anyone to apply for one and new parents also having the choice to opt in to receive the digital form as well as the original paper copy.
It would be exactly like the digital driver’s licence. Everyone will get their paper certificate but if you want you can download the digital copy.
"Nowhere else in the world provides a holistic digital solution to identity establishment, verification, authentication and management" according to the NSW Attorney General.
