A futurist room from the past

post-image
The ladies lounge off the dress circle foyer of the State Theatre in Sydney is called the Futurists' Room and was a 1920's view of future interior design, reflecting the cubist and modernist art of the day with the main element being the triangle.

Art deco designs are nearly always fantastic, particularly in their extreme rectangular and vertical shapes. This is a superb original remaining example from 1929 which both complements and contrasts with the varied classical styles of the State Theatre in Sydney ("the finest theatre in the Empire").
