Lockheed Martin, aerospace and defense corporation and a big name in metal 3D printing, has filed a patent application for a 3D printer that prints diamonds.?Their diamond printer uses?poly(hydridocarbyne), a carbon-based pre-ceramic polymer with structural similarities to diamonds. With 3D printing there?s a lot more potential for unique custom designs. If jewellers invest in them, it?ll be interesting to see how the cost of a 3D printed diamond ring might compare to a traditional one. https://3dprint.com/146562/diamond-3d-printer-lockheed/?

Magnetic Attraction: Microplastics

A Kyushu University study (2021) estimated there were 24.4 trillion pieces of microplastics in the world's upper oceans or roughly 30 billion 500-ml plastic water bottles. Microplastics are tiny, toxic and very hard to remove from the environment. But researchers in the US have discovered that some Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) can attract and bind microplastics, making it easier to remove them from the environment.
